Like a Diamond in the Sky
December 19, 2017
🎵Twinkle, twinkle little star… 🎵how I wonder what you are.
But today there's a twist.
🎵Twinkle, twinkle little star…🎵let me tell you who we are.
You see, little star, we’re actually not all that different.
Ya mean we're both...like a diamond in the sky?
Yup. Like a big shiny diamond.
Feel like a story?
[Out comes the popcorn and snuggly blanket]
You see, little star, us humans have forgotten our true identity. There was a time when we shone brightly—just like you. But now, sadly, many of us have forgotten who we are.
Then how do you know how to be?
That’s a good question. We don’t really. But the good news is there’s a huge community of us wanting to get reacquainted. And our numbers are growing every day. There are people at all different degrees of remembering and they’re all sharing what they know. And so, together, there’s lots of hope.
That’s cool. What do y'all know so far?
Well, for starters, we’re all spiritual beings.
Is that why many of you disappear into those special buildings on certain days?
Oh, you must be referring to churches, temples, synagogues, mosques and the like. Some people gather in places of worship as a way of rooting themselves. But spiritual beings are not to be confused with religious beings. We’re all spiritual beings but not all of us are religious.
Tell me more about how alike we are.
Well, we’re powerful entities of light. Not unlike a star. And our energy is pure, like 100% real juice, not from concentrate. It's where all our joy, all our zest resides. You see, we don't have to create joy in our spirits, we ARE joy. We don't have to act loving, we ARE love. We don't have souls, we ARE souls. We're souls in bodies.
Each of us is a brilliant white light wrapped in a human outfit. It’s like our bodies are the vessels that hold our essence. Kinda like an egg cup.
[Twinkle looks perplexed]
Ok, maybe an egg cup with legs. But the legs aren't even necessary. Work with me here. [Smile]
And, like you, we're naturally plugged into the Source of all light so we never run out. And when our bodies no longer function, our light still doesn't die. But that's a story for another day.
Yay, another story!
Hee hee. All in good time, Twinkle.
So you know how you have that glow around you? Well, we have that too. That brightness contained in our bodies actually spills out. It flows out past our bones and skin and into the world around us. It's sorta like taking a lamp with a super bright light bulb and dressing it in Barbie doll clothing.
You can’t buy Barbie clothes for pot bellies!
Haha. You’re right. Well, just use your imagination. Assuming the lamp is connected to electricity and turned on, that bulb is going to shine through those clothes. Same thing with us. Our beautiful bright light naturally beams through.
Just like me!
Yup, just like you. But sometimes our light doesn’t shine through as brightly as it’s meant to.
Because lots of us aren't being who we really are. You know, on the inside. We're screening out the very stuff that makes us…well…us.
That's kinda dumb.
Yeah, it is. We’ve tampered with our natural way of being. So we end up being somebody different on the outside than we are on the inside. And then all that good stuff is no longer filtering through because our filters are clogged and our light can't get through.
It's like you've lost your sparkle.
Exactly. Some people can actually see the amount of light filtering through on others. I can't. But I can feel it. Most of us can. When we walk into a room where people have been arguing—it doesn't feel so good. Cuz there’s not much light filtering through those folks. At least not at that time. Or when we're feeling kinda grumpy and we get busted by friends who are smiling, laughing, and joking around. Can't stay grumpy for long. There's a lightness, a feel-good energy that's contagious.
And then there's this thing that draws us to certain people. There's something about them. We can't quite put our finger on it but it just feels good to be in their presence. It's because their light is shining through—strong and clear. They're the real-est people you'll ever meet. They have very little, if any, filtering going on. They just are who they are.
You see, it's just plain natural for our light and energy to flow outwards. It's how we're built. It's sorta like breathing. We don't have to figure out how to breathe. We just breathe. We don’t have to figure out how to let our light flow. It just flows. I mean, we weren't sent here by some evil manipulator who removed our ability to shine.
Cue the wicked laugh...
Mmmmmwwwwwha-ha-ha-ha-ha. Let's send this soul down wrapped in tinfoil. She'll never be able to release her light into the world. She'll be MISERABLE!!! Mmmmmwwwwwha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
That was a funny voice. Do it again!
The point is, we’re this awesome awe-inspiring light and we're designed to allow that light to sparkle. Brightly. Just like you.
Yeah! Sparkle! How do ya think we can get more people to sparkle?
I dunno, Twink. Can I call you Twink?
Sure. But I draw the line at Twinkie.
Maybe you could give'm a taste of what it's like to sparkle. Then they'd feel so good they'd start to wake up?
I dunno, Twink. I mean, I'm still learning how to unclog my own filters.
But you've got nothin' to lose. Go ahead. Come on. Do your best rant.
Ok, but if I catch any flack for this, it's on you.
No problem. I mean, what are they gonna do? Pull me outta the sky? Sing a mean version of 🎵 Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star?
They could call you Twinkie.
[Twink shoots a glare].
Ok, here's what I got.
Imagine stripping away all your fears, all your worries, and all your concerns. That’s right. For just a moment in time, you're not worrying about paying bills or affording your children's college tuition. You're not worrying about having enough money to put food on the table. Or trying to figure out how you'll ever retire. You're not focusing on your aches and pains or other physical challenges. And when you look in the mirror you're not having negative thoughts about how you look or wished you looked.
You're not judging yourself for saying something dumb or short-sighted or maybe even mean. You're not worrying about people judging you for having a bad hair day. Or for being fatter than those gals on magazine covers. You're not fretting about how your children are turning out or if your teen will ever stop drinking and drugging. You're not worrying about losing your job or fretting about having to face yet another Monday. You're not looking back on your life with regret, or to your future with worry.
Nope. You can only see what’s directly in front of you.
In this moment.
In this second.
And in this tiny blip of time, all your needs are met and your fears dissolved. You can just sit back and r-e-l-a-x. Take a breath.
Do it now.
Take it all in. Allow peace and contentment to wash over you. Feel the stillness.
And when you’re ready, ask yourself "Who's left? Who am I now?" But don’t try to come up with a label. Just notice how you FEEL.
That’s you. The real you. The stripped down beautiful, authentic, gorgeous, interesting you. The unique, fun, loving, exciting, glorious, magnificent you. Shall I go on?
That’s who you really are. You’re not meant to be someone or something you’re not. You don’t have to become more or better or faster. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. You’re already all of that, everything, and more. Attempting to diminish yourself from all that spectacularness is against your nature. It’s like being a dog but always trying to be more catlike. Or being a tree but wishing you were a flower. You can never be those other things cuz that’s not who you are. And if you try, you'll only ever be a lesser version of them. And who wants to be a dog that meows? Or a tree that slumps into tininess?
You see, your biggest problem is you don’t recognize your own splendour. Your own nature. And this is creating chaos inside you and all around you. You're a brilliant, powerful, fun-loving spiritual being. So every time you attempt to make yourself smaller by swallowing your voice, withholding your truth, or pleasing others instead of yourself, you're clogging your filters. And when you clog your filters, it gets harder and harder for your light to shine through. And when your you-ness doesn't get through, you begin to suffer. Emotionally. Mentally. Physically.
Your true essence is dying to come out. So when you tell yourself it's not convenient right now, or it's too scary, or it'll create waves, or it'll take too much energy, or others won't get you or they won’t like you or accept you, remember this:
None of it matters. None of it. Just YOU matter. You being you. So let's simplify all these different jobs you have and roles you play and responsibilities you shoulder. Let’s boil them down to one priority. Cuz if you don't get this one thing, nothing else matters. And if you do get this one thing, then everything else’ll fall into place. As it should. Ready? Above all else, you have just one item on your to-do list—allow yourself to SHINE. Let your inner being out and let her SPARKLE.
How do ya do that?
Well, for starters, think small. Think of one itty bitty thing you can say or do or decide or dream or, or, or...that’ll feed that tiny you hiding inside. Keep it little. You don’t wanna scare her. It’s like getting your sea legs.
Now, if this whole thing seems too vague, or too overwhelming, or you simply have no idea where to start…no worries. Cuz we’re gonna be talkin’ lots more about all the nitty-gritty details in future posts.
But, for now, here’s what I want you to know:
You’re doing great. Wanna know why? Cuz you’re still reading. Which means there’s something inside you calling you. And you’re paying attention to her. You’re LISTENING. And that’s the most important thing you can do today. Listen to that call. Consider the possibility there’s a real being inside you worth getting to know. And maybe, just maybe, she’s everything you’ve been searching for.
[Twink breaks into applause. Standing O. Jumping up and down]
I can hardly wait to see'm light up!
Me too, Twink. Me too.
